One of the most lucrative companies over the last century has been Disney. Since the early 1900s they have been captivating audiences and reminding everyone that it's nice to dream. The success of the movie studios is only rivaled by that of its theme parks. All in all, Disney is a global wonder, with amusement parks all over the world and annual revenue of over $35 billion.

The triumph of Disney can be traced back to a single man - Walter Elias Disney. From his early days growing up in Missouri, he always had an palpable spark that separated him from the rest. Disney wanted to entertain others through a relatively new form of cinema called animation. He originally got started in the Kansas City area. Disney and a friend talked a local theater owner into letting them make cartoons to play at the beginning of his movies. It became a success and Disney and his partner, Ub Iwerks, started their own studio in Hollywood. After a few years of short projects, Disney and Iwerks came across a hit with their character Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. He was a huge commercial success and grew the Disney Company's resources. However, Disney didn't own the rights to Oswald and Universal Studios took over. They hired away most of his staff and claimed the character as their own.

Soon after this, Disney and Iwerks created the most recognizable animated character of all-time. Mickey Mouse helped launch the Disney empire. It wasn't long before there were several spin-offs of all of the Disney characters. Pluto, Goofy, and Donald Duck all had their own cartoons. Donald Duck, known for his explosive temper and duck voice was their second most popular character. He helped Disney grow through World War II and secured Disney's popularity.

After Disney's unparalleled success with short cartoons and films, he decided to open a theme park. He got the idea after receiving a flood of letters requesting tours of the studio. Instead of letting them tour the studio he came up with the idea of Disneyland. He purchased 160 acres of orange groves in Anaheim, California and built his dream. The first day of Disneyland was a grand event in American history. So many people wanted to get in, that they flooded the park. Even though only 11,000 tickets were printed for members of the media, over 28,000 people got into the park using forged tickets. That day will always live in infamy in Disney lore as "Black Sunday." After Disneyland was completed, Walt came up with the idea for an even grander park, which became Disney World. Disney World is still the number one vacation destination in the United States with Disneyland coming in second.

While the magic of Disney has flourished for almost a century, his greatest works are available for you to see on DVD. In fact, you can see the entirety of the Disney movie collection through the Disney DVD Gift Express. Enjoy the legacy of imagination from the comfort of your own living room.

I fell in love with horror movies as a young boy. I remember every Saturday watching those old classic black and white movies. You know the ones starring Lon Chaney, Jr. as the Werewolf or Bela Lugosi as Dracula? But probably my favorite character though, at the time, was Frankenstein, portrayed by the great Boris Karloff.

I recall flipping through one of my horror magazines one day and I found one of those really "cheesy" ads in the back, advertising this 7 foot tall life-like poster of the "UGLY GUY", replete with GLOW in the dark EYES. Wow, I thought. I deliberated with-in myself whether I should order it, thinking it would be kinda of cool to have, and probably after about, maybe 30 seconds, I started cutting out that little mail-in coupon, feverishly stuffing it, along with the required payment in the first envelope I could find. I subsequently mailed that envelope and greatly anticipated the posters arrival.

After a few short weeks wait, I had my poster and boy was I excited. It was exactly as they described, 7 feet tall, plastic and when I turned off the lights, it glowed in the dark. Oh, and its image, the one of Frankenstein, was really ugly, maybe even scary to some, but not me. My nephew David was, however, one of those people. I remember wanting to play a prank, which included, scaring the hell out of him. I would send him to my room where he would see the poster as soon as he opened the door and would almost die as he would run screaming from the room. You see, the little fella was all of maybe 5 or 6 years old. I knew just one look from him at that poster and it would have the desired effect. And so I thought of some reason for asking him to go to my room. And just as I thought he didn't protest but immediately ran up the steps and down the hallway to my room. After what seemed like a few seconds he was coming back down the hall and down the steps noticeably faster than he went up, but this time he was crying. You have to know that as a kid of 13 or 14, I couldn't help but find this experience very funny, and was never my impetus for buying the poster.

The magazines, posters and of course, all of those cool movies, were (and still are) some of the reasons why I love horror movies. As a child I got my kicks out of trying to scare my nephew from time to time, and as an adult, I still get my kicks, the only difference is, I find myself in the fortuitous position of being able to "now" give people what they want, and that being the same thing that all lovers of the horror movie genre want which is fear. In measured dosages, of course.

Why Should You Get A LCD TV? Posted By : Robert Thomson

What are the advantages of having an LCD TV? Why would you choose this instead of a regular standard definition TV?

One thing that's nice about LCD TVs is that they tend to be slim and compact. For this reason, it's easy to place them in a room without them taking up the whole space! Most LCD TVs come with the ability to add a mounting kit and mount them to the wall. This is not only a space saver, but it also just looks very modern and cool!

When you mount an LCD TV to the wall, you also are able to keep that particular wall free of furniture such as an entertainment center. If you need to have a DVD player and cable box nearby, you can simply mount a small shelf beside or below the TV, rather than having an entire piece of furniture take up all that space!

Another advantage to LCD TVs' smaller size is that they are a bit easier to transport, not only when you're moving but also when you're changing what room you are keeping the LCD TV in. Regular TV's have that big picture tube which makes them much heavier and more bulky.

Last but not least, a major advantage of LCD TV's is that they have a better quality picture than standard TV's. Bear in mind that not all LCD TVs are HDTV's. Ask the merchant where you are purchasing your LCD TV whether that particular model is an HDTV quality television. It may have the same connections as an HDTV but it may not be able to display HD sources in true, perfect HD quality. This will depend on the resolution (dpi) of the particular LCD TV that you purchase.

Clearly, LCD TVs are a great choice. They tend to last a long time, too, and many of them can display your computer's picture in clear quality (and therefore, they can double as a computer monitor)!

What Is All The Fuss About HDTV Over? Posted By : Robert Thomson

The average person doesn't know that much about HDTV (high definition television). Many of us would wonder about such questions as:

Is HDTV much better than standard definition television?

Is it necessary to get an HDTV to watch DVDs or Bluray Discs?

Now that television stations are broadcasting in digital, does this relate to HDTV and do I need an HDTV to watch TV now?

First of all, yes HDTV is much better than standard definition. Even the average person would notice the difference if they were watching an HDTV and a standard def TV, side-by-side. With that said, would it impact the viewing experience for everyone? Possibly not, but it will affect the way in which many people enjoy shows and especially movies.

At the end of the day, HDTV is a luxury for now, but one day you will be unable to buy a new television that is NOT an HDTV. Until then, it is up to you whether you think it is worth the extra expense. If you are already in the market for a new television, you should consider HD. It's always better to be ahead of the curve rather than behind. It becomes a budget choice at this point.

But no, it is not necessary to have an HDTV in order to watch DVD movies or digital television. You may need an inexpensive converter box (contact your local television stations or the FCC for more information) in order to watch digital broadcasts. However, if you have cable, this is not necessary.

Having HDTV is a luxury, and it is only necessary if you are a videophile and will notice the difference.
